Janice Ankeny

Janice Ankeny oversees IP Operations at Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures (JHTV), the commercialization and entrepreneurship hub of the university.
The Intellectual Property Operations team is responsible for development and management of daily operational workflow processes and functions to support Johns Hopkins’ growing portfolio of over 3,100 active patents. This includes management of the processes related to reports of invention, an international docket, annuity payments, law firm invoice review, patent related communications, and federal compliance with Bayh-Dole regulations. Janice’s team seeks to optimize technology to improve data integrity, compliance and to leverage operational resources.
Janice joined JHTV in 2011, having spent her early career as a Human Resource Software Systems Administrator and Implementation Consultant focused on workflow process re-design, system customization, and user training. Janice worked with a range of clients, including Fortune 100/500 companies, federal agencies, and university systems.
In her “second career” of technology transfer, Janice has applied the process improvement mindset to the complexity of Intellectual Property operations, leading among other projects the implementation of a new IP management system, Inteum, in 2015. Janice has also led efforts to improve the efficiency of – and respond to evolving requirements of – federal IP reporting.
Janice was recently awarded the Registered Technology Transfer Professionals (RTTP) certification in 2020; she also serves on the AUTM Annual Meeting Program Committee. Janice has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Muhlenberg College in Pennsylvania.
